Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use FlowCast® for small pours?

Used in low volumes, FlowCast cures extremely slowly. Product cure times vary depending on the volume used. For smaller castings, such as serving trays or coasters, we recommend that you use FlowCast SPR.

Can I do multi-layer pours?

Yes, FlowCast is suitable for multi-layer pours. Additional layers can be poured without surface preparation when the previous layer is tacky to touch. If the previous layer is no longer tacky to touch, you will need to wait for the resin to reach sufficient hardness (approximately 72 hours), then scuff the surface with 220 grit sandpaper. Remove excess dust and debris with compressed air and wipe the surface clean with denatured or isopropyl alcohol before pouring the next layer.

Can I pour thicker than 38mm (1.5”)?

If you are planning to pour thicker than 38 mm (1.5”) and at a volume greater than 30 L, pouring in multiple layers is suggested to prevent overheating. Alternatively, you can actively cool a thicker pour with fans, but you must be prepared to constantly monitor the temperature to make sure that your project does not overheat. Note that results will vary depending on ambient temperature. When mixed in large quantities, this product can generate significant heat. Handle with care.

Do I need a seal coat? What product do you recommend?

We recommend seal coating any surfaces that will be submerged in FlowCast. Seal coats help prevent air and moisture from migrating out of submerged materials, which can cause bubbles. UVPoxy is the preferred system for seal coats as it is a faster curing resin made for applying in thin layers. Cured seal coats should be abraded and cleaned before proceeding with pours.

What products can I use to finish my FlowCast project?

For a high gloss top coat, EcoPoxy’s UVPoxy is an ideal choice. For matte to gloss finishes, use wood wax, hard wax oil, or urethanes. Any product that is intended for wood finishing is compatible with FlowCast.

Will my project yellow over time?

All epoxies yellow over time. To combat this, we formulated FlowCast with UV stabilizers. These additives absorb UV light and prevent damage to the resin. Eventually, the stabilizers will lose their effectiveness. Adding metallic or liquid pigments to FlowCast will help it resist yellowing better than if it is left transparent. Completed projects should not be kept outdoors.

Mixing & Application Instructions

Mixing

In a clean, dry container combine (by volume) 2 parts resin with 1 part hardener and mix thoroughly for 4-5 minutes. Add Liquid or Metallic pigments as desired and mix until evenly dispersed.

Application

Working area should be clean, dry, and free of dust. FlowCast can be poured at 13-38mm (0.5-1.5”) per layer. FlowCast will not shrink while curing under normal conditions. However, it may slowly fill cracks and voids in live edge wood pieces, causing the resin level to drop. Be prepared to add more epoxy as needed.

Epoxy releases heat when curing. For pours of 30L or more, multiple thinner pours may be necessary to prevent overheating. Fans blowing across the curing epoxy may also be used to help dissipate heat. For best adhesion between layers, wait until the first layer is tacky to touch before pouring a second layer. If the previous layer is no longer tacky, sand with 220 grit sandpaper and wipe down before pouring another layer.

Premium FlowCast Features

Ideal for Thick Pours

With the ability to cast thick pour epoxy layers from ½" to 1½", FlowCast is well suited for river tables, ocean tables, and other large-scale casting applications that require depth, clarity, and structural stability.

Bubble-Free Castings

FlowCast’s low-viscosity formula provides excellent air release, allowing trapped air to rise and escape before curing. This results in smooth, bubble-free castings with a clean liquid glass appearance.

Outstanding Transparency

FlowCast cures to a transparent water-clear finish. It can be used as a clear casting resin or tinted with Liquid and Metallic Pigments to create vibrant colors, depth, and visual effects.

Low Heat Build Up

This deep pour epoxy cures slowly with minimal heat buildup, reducing the risk of warping, cracking, or stress in thick pours. The controlled cure makes FlowCast a reliable choice for large epoxy woodworking projects.

Durable and hardly no smell.

This epoxy resin is expensive, but you get what you pay for. There is almost no smell, and it is extremely durable. I've used it for two projects with the latest for a countertop island between hard maple boards. It is stronger than the hard maple, flows well, and is easily colored.

Thanks, John! Our goals are to offer premium high bio-content epoxy products, that don't compromise on performance, quality and value. Thanks for choosing us!

Amazing product and extremely easy to use

I used EcoPoxy for my rivertable computer desk and it was quite easy to use. Although it is crucial that you follow the instructions on the container regarding temperature, pour thickness, ratios, and cure time, if you follow what the container instructs, you'll be fine. This was my first time working with any type of epoxy and I have to say that although I was initially nervous in how to properly use the epoxy (as it was not cheap) after my first pour, it was like clockwork afterwards. the finished product came out great and although I'm not completely done with the construction of the desk. I am very pleased with the outcome.

Leaking upon arrival.

This is my first time working with this epoxy. My first impression is not good. Both Part A bottles are leaking. The package was not damaged, so the leak is likely due to a bad seal. I weighed both part A containers, and one is 1.8oz less than the other. I’m hoping that it does not cause issues with the epoxy setting. I plan on calling the manufacturer to confirm.I will update the review once I have more info.

UPDATE: Since this review was submitted, EcoPoxy has transitioned to smaller, more reliable, child safe lid & seal. We also now feature white lids for resin, and black lids for hardeners, to help avoid mixing mishaps!

A versatile epoxy resin

I have used Ecopoxy Flowcast for several months now. I made some resin wood hybrid bowls I turned on the lathe, and recently have been pouring river tables. The viscosity is super thin, so bubbles break out easily on their own. I do recommend coating your wood surfaces before making a pour. When the wood soaks up the resin, it will sometimes leave bubbles in the late cure stage. By pre- coating, I have seen less bubbles deep in the epoxy pour. This resin takes about 36 hours to harden tack free. But the results are worth waiting for. Sands and polished nicely.

Excellent deep pour river table epoxy

I have used both this new formula and the previous discontinued formula on 5 different deep pour river tables all of which are about 2" thick. The stuff simply works great for me and I am an amateur just taught myself how to do this stuff recently watching a few YouTube videos. Literally no smell what so ever. Never had issue with soft spots from poor mixing(I use my drill and a paint mixer attachment and mix really well being careful not to introduce too much bubbles). I will pop bubbles with heat gun for the first few hours and then leave overnight, come back next morning and there is usually a few more stragglers that need attention, pop those and the epoxy is Chrystal clear. I run it through my 20" planer no issues. I will say I used a hand planer once a dewalt cordless model and not sure if I was pushing too fast or the blades were dull, but I chipped the epoxy pretty badly so be careful there. Overall highly recommended.

I have used FlowCast on the last 10 projects and have had good results. it does seem to work better if you do 2 smaller pours of 3/4" than doing one 1 1/2" pour.
I have switched to UV Poxy on the last 9 projects for the topcoat and it worked great until this last project. cannot seem to get bubbles out? did 2 seal coats and 1 flood coat. milled back off and tried again, 2 seal coats and 1 flood coat. still cannot get rid of bubbles. mill back off and purchase new box of uv poxy incase it was bad or old. still had trouble getting air bubbles out, finally torched it enough to get it somewhat acceptable!

Hi Kelly, sorry to hear you were having some trouble with bubbles. It would be great to know what species of wood you were coating; oak, for example, can be particularly challenging to keep bubble-free. Feel free to give us a call, we'd definitely like to know more about your project particulars, and we might be able to offer some helpful tips/info for next time.

Maybe next time

I'm sure it's fine but be aware there's a minimal volume pour allows for this product. No small press allowed or touch ups...

Hey Katie, not sure of the particulars of your project, but if you are using small volumes, and lower pour depths, then we may have another product that's better suited - Like FlowCast SPR (small projects resin), or even UVPoxy (for depths under 1/4').

Excellent Product & Company

If there were more than 5 stars to give; I would give them all. Twice. I cannot express my happiness/satisfaction with this product and the company. They made sure I was buying the correct product and quantity and answered questions I had regarding use. Easy to use and excellent quality. I've only purchased it once but a friend of mine suggested it which is what lead me here. My project turned out the same as his - very consistent product. Great value - would purchase again in a heartbeat.

Wow! Such a glowing review, thanks for that, Laura! (And give our regards to your friend with the impeccable taste in resins!)

Excellent end results, but there is some trial and error to apply it properly to get a great result

Once product itself is dry, it is very durable and brings out the very best detail in slab wood table tops for example. However, it is not as easy to work with as you might think. When mixed, it's much closer to the viscosity of water than syrup for example, which makes it flow thru and into any wood cracks better, but also puts any tape used to control its flow under more strain. Product comes in two bottles - epoxy and resin - and mixing them together is straight forward and low VOC. The preparation of the material you are using this product on (for example a table top slab), and the details of how the process is accomplished are the critical elements. As an example - if using product to seal a table top, you must ensure that you start with a THIN coating into any cracks in the wood AND let that dry thoroughly, before applying additional product layer, or layers. If you try and pour the cracks full with the first application or one application, especially if those cracks are thick and deep, the wood will just absorb too much product AND it will put pressure on any tape used on the bottom side of the table top slab for example, and likely will leak out around the underside crack(s) thru the tape (especially if its not the right tape). Using the right kind of tape on the bottom of the cracks before pouring is critical. I was told to use Tyvek house wrap tape initially - big mistake ! That product not only leaked out from under that tape, that tape was to thin and almost impossible to peal off when product was dry (it bonded with the product directly and took ages to chip off). I found that green frog tape, the kind used in painting, worked much better and detached from the dried product much better. Best advice can give - Watch LOTS of available videos on the web showing examples of applying this material, especial to your specific application, BEFORE you start working with this product on your own project !

Hey Gregg, there's some great advice in there! For sure, start with a more modest project, and work out your techniques, before tackling the 14' board room table. Be sure to check out our tutorials at ecopoxy.com, especially on how to build an epoxy mold. Most sucessful pours start with a meticulous, bullet-proof, preparation process. Good luck on all your future projects!

Good stuff

Takes forever to dry but it works very well. Use the faster drying one if you are using powdered dyes

My most used epoxy to date

You need to know the drying times and if you want to stir the epoxy for swirl's when to do so. Have done 6 or more tables and this performs well. Some were 1.75 inches thick and dried well. Only nuance was bubbles and temperature when you pour. Just hit the bubbles with torch however I still wound up having some bubbles inside the pour.Once dried, this sands well and if using 1000 grit final sand on the epoxy it comes out glass smooth. Of the brands I have tried, this is the best thus far.
